Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge…

#TANKATUESDAY Weekly #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 266, 3/22/22, #THEMEPROMPT

This month’s theme is:

FIRE & WATER

The
clock struck
midnight twice
storm winds blew hard
the old house rattled
thunder had us hiding
lightning lit the tree flame red
hours later, rain took the flames back
slowly creeping from under the table
silence returned, filling the house with peace…

Bells
ringing
Christmas cheer
children singing
Santa’s reindeer wait
gifts wrapped; ribbons tight
around the world in one night
there is no naughty list this year
each child will receive his heartfelt wish
Santa’s milk and cookies wait by the fire…

#TankaTuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge: #Poet’s choice

One
by one
they leave me
the hall of souls
has become too quiet
so many want new lives
the Hall cannot be empty
some lives on earth will be cut short
time taken from them will be returned
all life and death must be kept in balance…

#TANKA TUESDAY #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 233, #POET’SCHOICE

This challenge is a true poet’s choice! Use any syllabic poetry form that you’d like. As long as there are syllables to count, you’re good to go! Be creative. If your form is something new, teach us how to write it. Have fun!

One
winter
when snow fell
angels whispered
my impending birth
the new dark pretender
to make Merlin seem saintlike.
trouble aplenty lie in wait
darker evil, right through the cold core.
at night, the townsfolk tremble in their sleep
my birth had been planned before time, and thought
I guess the universe has a plan
the new spell has now been woven
time cannot recall it back
nor damp the troubled wave
people’s minds are weak
skyhooks are clear
they dig deep
time held
tight

Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge

It’s the third week of the month! Time for an Ekphrastic #PhotoPrompt

This challenge explores Ekphrastic writing inspired by visual art (photographs). When you write poetry based on a painting or photograph, we work with symbolism and metaphors. This week, don’t just describe what you see in the image. Check out How to Write Ekphrastic Poetry and apply some of the techniques used in the article to your own poem.

Dragons nest
Tales of old, mix
Where shining swords clash
Water spirits record
Kings are made by waterfalls
Where young knaves wait to be knighted
They bless their swords by sacred water
Rid the land of Roman occupation…

Dark
Magic
Soft velvet
Bearded wonder
Pale blue by water
By moonlight shining seen
Iris spirit dancing free
Time returns, my childhood pleasure
Of gentle angels leading my way
School journey made easy by gentle touch…

All
Daring
Venturists
End the game, too
Nearer the white line
Take time to remember.
Under new laws you stopped short
Rewind. Reverse, do it again
End your time today, with friends and wine.
Strength in numbers with their encouraging smiles…

Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday Challenge

#TANKA TUESDAY Weekly #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 214, #THEMEPROMPT

This month’s theme is:

Dreams

Does
Dreaming
come from a
different bed
Do we dream their dreams?
Is it sad and lonely?
Do we enter the unknown
A universe of do it twice
Where any old dream they think will do
for a night spent in someone else’s bed…
