Lately, every time I go out doors, the extent of fresh growth every where I look is becoming overwhelming.

All the rain we have had lately has triggered an immense growth spurt. All of my bonsai are almost unrecognisable, and the garden is a jungle.

I feel so helpless, looking at it all, knowing there is no way I can even make a dent in any of it. There is so much I cannot yet do, which is only adding to the frustration. I keep trying to think of other ways I can do things and this is only making things worse.

My gardener friend is really busy right now, and doing me a favour is not on his list at the moment, so I have to try and do something.

The latest idea, is to rake out the strimmer, cut the weeds down on the path and patio, and then squirt the stumps with something.

The bonsai are not so easy. Each one needs careful pruning, and I need to do this soon, before my sister goes out there with a pair of scissors. Her idea of pruning is definitely not mine!

Another idea is to rake out the kneeling pad with the handles, and see if I can get down and back up again. If I can, I can grab a few weeds, which is better than nothing.

The good news, no more rain for a while, so maybe I will be able to do something constructive…

  1. One way of looking at it, is that the weeds will grow again almost as quickly as you can pluck them from the ground. Only do the essential and focus on your beautiful bonsai. You gardener friend will be able to cope with the weeds no matter how massive they’ve grown. Please don’t do anything that might cause you to fall and set you back. And I think putting the bonsai on the table to work at them is a great idea. I’ve had to cut right back in my garden and I’m learning to accept some of the weeds. xx

    1. Its support like yours that has been keeping me going, Trish, and don’t worry, I am still being ultra careful!

  2. I do hope you get out there.

I hope you can get out there, Jaye. It will help the plants and you.

    1. I am getting out there, even though it scares me to death. No hand holds, and plenty of things to trip me up. I can bend down these days, but I get tired very quickly.
But I would rather be out there than stuck inside…

  4. lol don’t you dare get down on your knees to weed! Seriously. I have one of those things and I can’t use it comfortably. Please be cautious.

    1. I won’t know unless I try, Meeks. I will try in doors first…

  5. Can you prune the bonsai from a chair? If the plants are positioned so you can work on them without bending over or lifting?

    1. I can reach the ones on the bottom shelf from a chair, but I stand to do the others. On bad days, I can transfer them to the table to be pruned. I can stand for longer these days, so getting so much stronger. As for general weeding, this may need more thought, Audrey, but I’m working on it…

      1. That’s good to know, Jaye! 👍

        1. Progress is happening, but it’s so slow…

  6. you know, my lovely, I had to stop looking at what I couldn’t do and celebrate what I can do! start the shift slowly and watch how much stronger you feel xx

    1. This is something I do on a regular basis, Annette, but I love being outdoors, so I am also enjoying finding ways to get things done…
