This is so lovely. So, the Gogyohka is based on breaths… No sentences, just quick phrases that only last one breath long – short being the operative word. If you have to inhale to say the next word, then that word or words would belong on the next line. A Gogyohka is really a Tanka poem written the way the Japanese intended. Remember, our syllables are much longer than they are in Japanese. <3
