Challenge for Carrot Ranch Literary Community

99 words isindeed a challenge, but so worth the effort!

What is it good for, not eating.

Throw it at the wall, see if it sticks.

Leave it until it falls off, give it to the kids to play with.

Oh, wait a minute they have already done that.

My granddaughters have used it for school projects

Picture frames you cannot dust…

The Italians love to tell us it has to be Al dente, the bite.

The thought of eating pasta makes me want to run for the hills…

And I know it’s well-loved across the globe

But seriously, why was it ever invented?

Does it grow on trees?

This week the 99 word challenge prompt is Bottleneck…

Something we experience when pushing our way into a new life. A tight space, hard to get out of.

Days when the tension holds on to the back of my neck like giant metal claws.

Other times I feel as if I have been snapped back in time, trapped inside the Trojan horse with a bunch of sweaty human beings, waiting to do battle.

The sun will come back and you can move on with your life. The way ahead is clear, or am I trapped inside someone else’s mind?

Is this the bottleneck that will finally break me?

Magic comes in many forms.

A flash of light to the side of your vision,

Illuminating something that went unnoticed before.

Sunlight dancing on a shard of glass,

Like tiny stars caught between worlds.

A web of magic.

These moments go by so fast, they are lost

Unless you keep them in your memory

Like a pocket full of stardust.

We should try to hold on to every flash of magic,

Dancing reflections on the surface of a lake

Skimming a stone, watching it arc across the water

These are all moments of magic and long may they last…

This weeks 99 word challenge is Comet…

When I look at a comet, having been lucky enough to see one, I see a giant snowman, throwing a ball of ice across our night sky, with its tail of dust.

We look upon it with wonder.

Could this giant hand be playing Rounder’s, or maybe Alleygobs with giant marbles? Is there someone on the other side of our dark sky ready to catch them, to hold onto them for too long before we see them again?

Could it be an invisible jockey riding a sky horse or maybe a knight from some forgotten age, looking for Merlin?

This weeks 99 Word Challenge: The Yellow Tent

I have never been camping, nor slept in a tent

But I do know that yellow is the colour of magic.

Maybe I should try sleeping under a yellow canvas

To see where magic might take me.

To an enchanted forest with a babbling brook

Listening to the music made by flowing water

With fairy lanterns to light my way.

A castle where I might find my own Prince Charming

King Arthur and the Round Table

With Merlin by his side.

The golden chalice having been found

Back in its rightful place

Maybe there, I will find my happiness…
