I was thinking back to when I started writing Swan Song, my latest detective mystery, and how it was supposed to answer all the questions I had at the time.
That by sorting out the problems my detective, David Snow had, I would probably sort my own. We were both fast approaching our own swan songs, and it was both our hopes that a favourable result could be found for each of us..
This was before most of my health problems turned up, but I am still trying to finish my latest story. Getting old and tired can be a problem for some people, when they find life more difficult and you don’t seem to cope any more. Circumstances gang up on you, causing pressures that you could once handle, but now they have begun to derail you. I am using every ounce of the strength I have left to finish what I started, and every day adds another chapter.
David Snow has been a successful detective in the past, but difficult cases, his wife being murdered, and his own near death experience, has left him unsure of not just who he is, but also his place in the world. My story is similar. We should probably both retire, but neither of us want to walk away from the jobs we love.
My life hasn’t been quite as eventful as his, more a case of old age finally taking its toll. And then, of course, my recent health problems.
I think the main problem for both of us is, we don’t want to give up, but what will the future bring?
love always
