Old desktop computer with CRT monitor, keyboard, mouse, and dusty case
Those were not really the good old days!

Early last year, or maybe it was the year before, I had the idea to update our website.

You may remember that it didn’t go well, and our website was a bit of a mess for a while.

A lot has happened since then, but just recently, that old annoyance has made another appearance. You see, after those Happiness Engineers got us up and running again, I have never been completely happy with the result.

I have often thought about having another go, but I have been rather distracted of late. Maybe because I am feeling a little more determined these days, I find myself wanting to right a few wrongs.

Trouble is, to make changes on WP, you have to know about those pesky blocks and what to do with them. Which is where I have more than a problem.

YouTube wasn’t much help in that department, so I ended up Googling it. I found an article on the subject, and a book that promised success. I tell you, all this learning is like being back at school.

Progress ?

So far I have successfully altered the site menu, something I have been wanting to do for a long time. This gave me hope for the rest of the changes I want to make. Although, what followed was a depressing amount of time making a pigs ear out of everything. I almost gave up and vowed to ditch the website, as the harder I tried, the worse everything seemed to get. I did mention that I am not technically brilliant, didn’t I?

I though changing the theme would work, for I swear the current one is determined to drive me crazy. Considering what happened last time, I decided not to bother.

That’s when it all fell to pieces. Things stopped working and I couldn’t figure out if it was my fault or not, so I tried to get a conversation with those HE’s.

After a very long session, it turned out to be some kind of bug, which they fixed in no time. I was back with all the original problems, some of which I had made considerably worse. (As you might have noticed already)

Armed with more notes from Google, I am confidently going to tackle one thing at a time. Hopefully, my next post will have better news…

WP definitely gone worse, with this new structure of blocks. :-( Why don`t you use AI – copilot.microsoft.com highly recommended – to get introduced to the “new” WP step by step? Try it, and i am sure it will fit your needs. Best wishes, Michael

    1. I did try that out of desperation, Michael, and it screwed everything up so badly, I had to get the HE to put it right. If I can’t learn to fix things myself, I might have to hang up my spurs!
