I wondered how long it would take for the battle to begin…

I have been enjoying my new routines, and the amount of work I am getting to, so I shouldn’t really be surprised if life didn’t decide to throw a couple of spanners in the works, just to see if I rise to the challenge or run away and hide. Three days of interruptions and delays, but I didn’t sink into despair. The enthusiasm of my new work ethic stayed with me. Looks like I am finally on the right track!

I am not the hiding kind of gal, and just as likely to throw the challenge back than run from it.

But there’s not much you can do about life, is there? You chose it and like it or not, have to cope with anything it throws at you. I could really do without all the things that were not of my choosing, like deviations in the power supply or the cost of living soaring to new heights every day.

Some things are definitely out of our control, like family problems or illnesses and we have had quite a few of those lately. Yesterday, we had a family day, one of the grandbabies birthdays that has been postponed several times due to chicken pox. Frankie is barely five months old and seeing her yesterday nearly broke my heart. Covered in spots, she looked so sad. Her big sister had it first and her spots have nearly all gone now.

We all tried hard to enjoy the day, catching up on family stuff. I like to think our company cheered Frankie up a bit. We managed to get a smile and that was something to see.

Not all spots are lovely!

  1. ” I could really do without all the things that were not of my choosing” Yeah, I’m really not a fan of all the plot twists life has to offer me either! However, acceptance of them makes it all a bit easier to navigate them. Hope your world improves!

    1. I refuse to accept what is driving me to the grave and will fight to the end for a peaceful, uncomplicated life…

      1. Same! Here’s to a finding that peace! ((hugs))

  2. Those curve balls seem to come in cycles. Life ticks along nicely for a while and then, BAM! Sadly the bams do seem to come in threes, or fives, or more. I’m glad you’re still writing though, because the pendulum will swing back the other way too. -hugs-

    1. I have actually lost count of the bams, Meeks… hopefully they have run their course…

  3. I feel for the baby. No fun.

    1. I knew she was feeling pretty bad, as she didn’t cry much. The saddest face I have ever seen on a baby. I did get a little smile though…

      1. A baby smile is always a heart warming thing.

  4. Ah, hope she feels better soon. I remember catching chicken pox from my sons many years ago. The two of them were running around like mountain goats with just a few spots, and I felt terrible and was bed-bound for at least 5 days. My husband had to take time off work to look after them.

    1. I felt so helpless, Stevie… She didn’t know what to do, so it was torture for us too…

      1. Little ones usually bounce back quite quickly I think.

  5. Life definitely throws us some curve balls. I think the worst are the family ones that you can do nothing about except sit, watch and be there.
So pleased you had a lovely day with your family. I’m due to go to my daughter’s on Wednesday. She’s cooking a birthday dinner for me (and my husband, of course) with the rest of the family.

    1. Good times, Vivienne…

  6. Life is bound to throw a few hurdles at us, but that’s life, right? I’m glad you haven’t lost your focus, Jaye, and are taking the time to enjoy family fun. Poor baby probably needed the distraction. Happy Writing!

  7. Love the cartoon. Our three got chicken pox three in a row in 1990, just when were were about to embark on the BIG 9 week holiday to Australia to see my family. We had to change all the plans not once but twice. Just as stressful for those waiting in Australia. That remains the most stressful holiday ever , but at least I remember exactly when they had chicken pox.
Hope poor baby feels better soon.

    1. she’s a tough little cookie, so she will bounce back soon…
