Anita found this Peonie in Waitrose, and the minute I saw it, I fell in love.

I love Peonies, despite or maybe because of their fragile nature. They never last more than five minutes in the garden, so I hoped that being in my peaceful office would encourage longevity.

A week passed, and I was started to think it wasn’t real, as it looked better as time went on. Probably one of those silk flowers, which meant I would keep it forever.

But…

The water in the vase was getting low, and I don’t like to change the water for fear of upsetting the apple cart. But if the water got any lower, the flower would die anyway. Another day passed, and I couldn’t bear the thought of losing this beautiful flower, so I added some water to the vase.

Later that day, I found a pile of petals on the table. As I watched, more fell and I knew this was the end.

I think I will frame my photograph, so I can remember it in the depths of winter…
