Ten days into the new year, and so far, it has been a great beginning.

Yesterday should have been a good day, as I was beginning to expect it.

I was disappointed when the computer started to play up, buffering and refusing to do anything. I could feel my newfound enthusiasm slowly sinking.

I gritted my teeth and tried to carry on, rebooting and trying all the usual tricks to get some work done. When this didn’t work, I sank further down the frustration ladder.

This was when something else joined the party, and before I knew what I was doing, I switched the computer off!

There was something immensely satisfying in saying no, for I suddenly realised that was what I had just done. Something I would have done years ago rather than keep bashing my head against the wall.

So, was this a me I haven’t seen in a while?

I left the office without a second glance. I launched into a day of housework, trying to lose the frustration as I caught up with the most outstanding jobs.

I was exhausted but very pleased with my efforts at the end of a busy day.

This was another strange feeling for me, as it had been a while since I had cause to pat myself on the back.

Today, I am looking for more chances to shine… and I had better find some…

  1. You will have a bright year. Keep it alive, everything will be fine.

    1. I hope you are right!

  2. I think the turn off at least gave you a respite from that annoying buffering. I wonder if you have considered an external drive? They are useful for taking unused or large files and storing them there instead of the hard drive on the computer. Also a great place to park book files for safety.

    1. I have heard of these, John. Would it work with Windows?

      1. Works with everything. What you do is take a file and save it to the external hard drive. You can retrieve it whenever you want. Does photos and all else too. You can shop around but I would recommend at least one Terabyte of storage.

        1. Good to know, John and thank you. I will be looking at these later today…

      2. Absolutely agree with John … I back up all my files once a week onto an external hard drive, and once a day when I’m in full writing mode … I only lost a huge amount of writing once, many years ago now, before I learned that lesson.
It’s also a great place to store digital photos, which take up huge amounts of space.

        1. and easily accessible, I hope?

          1. It is, They have a standard USB connector, so you just plug it in to your computer, then you can locate it in your files folder just like you would have to to open any document. :D

            1. Sounds like a private arrangement, a brilliant alternative to Word!

  3. Sometimes turning it off and turning it on again works!

    1. Turned out to be more serious, Stevie… My
internet protection took all day to clean 15 contaminated files, sourced to a google update I recently installed.

      1. Oh dear. Glad it’s fixed now.

        1. If its not one thing, its another, Stevie…

  4. Sometimes walking away is the best thing you can do. Kudos to you!

    1. It felt good too, Jan. But I didn’t escape the problem, it was still there this morning!

  5. How about, instead of ‘keep bashing my head against the wall’ you bash the computer against the wall, instead, Jaye! 😎

    1. I would, if it wasn’t so expensive to replace…

  6. Seems your computer failure was just what you needed. May your energy last long.

    1. I think I had become complacent with all the pesky technical stuff… it was good to realise that I could walk away if I wanted to…

  7. You shall shine! You do shine! Long may you SHINE!

    1. Thanks for being in my corner, Annette! you are much appreciated!

I am so sorry for your experiences, but perhaps your computer has updated with AI, and his achievment was giving you time for a rest. ;-) Keep calm, keep cool, it’s beautiful. :-) xx Michael

    1. It was actually a dodgy update, of all things… but I appreciated the break!
