That’s wonderful. I’ve been feeling that way lately. “last one standing” reminded me of my mother. She and one last friend were all remaining, and every Christmas she’d await a card to see if she was was the last one standing. She wasn’t.

I found the reference to memories poignant and powerful. They are aspects we take warmth from. Good counterpoint with the slippers (nice choice of footwear too)

Those of us, older ones, wonder about how long we will remain standing. The answer may be “until we’re not.” Excellent poem, Anita.
