That’s wonderful. I’ve been feeling that way lately. “last one standing” reminded me of my mother. She and one last friend were all remaining, and every Christmas she’d await a card to see if she was was the last one standing. She wasn’t.

Those of us, older ones, wonder about how long we will remain standing. The answer may be “until we’re not.” Excellent poem, Anita.

A thoughtful and deep work, dealing with the topic that most folk once they get to late 60s and early 70s start to wonder about.
I found the reference to memories poignant and powerful. They are aspects we take warmth from. Good counterpoint with the slippers (nice choice of footwear too)-
