remember Milo?

I often think of Milo, our cheeky marmalade kitten. He is no longer with us, he was sadly run over on the road outside our house.

None of us have gotten over the loss of such an adorable character.

This story has been triggered by another visit by his feline buddy, the small black female cat that still visits us occasionally. I suspect she is checking if Milo is still here. He is, but only in spirit these days.

Black cat with a white patch on chest sitting on stone path surrounded by green plants and flowers

She says hello, enjoys a fuss, strolls around the house and then she is gone again. This time however, the small black cat was behaving differently. I first spotted her, sitting outside in the yard. She looked up at me and with the saddest face I have ever seen on a cat, she meowed. A small weak sound, and I knew she wanted something else this time.

I went outside to say hello, and she allowed me to stroke her and rub her ears. When I turned to go back indoors, she came with me.

Once in the kitchen, there were a lot more meows, and I wondered if she was hungry. I didn’t have any cat food, or a convenient tin of tuna. All I had was a packet of ham.

Slice after slice, she attacked the ham like a starving man.

I wondered if she had been abandoned. Had her owner died or moved away?

When she had eaten her fill, all my questions evaporated when she finally took off. But she knows where to come if she gets hungry again…

sad memories… 💕

… but how wonderful that young Miss Black trusts you enough to ask for a feed. My first thought was, ‘I wonder if she’s pregnant.’
