Starting this afternoon, and continuing over the weekend, we have been threatened promised some amazing thunderstorms.

This remains to be seen, as our town is so protected by the South Downs that we usually miss out, but we still hope this could be the time it doesn’t.

This is my pitiful attempt to photograph last night’s huge red Harvest moon. My camera is not good at night shots, and the moon, although bigger than usual, barely makes an impact, competing with the street lights. There will also be a lunar eclipse tonight, but I doubt we will see it, what with the promised weather.

It’s all very disappointing, but I am having a ball creating a world for the new book. The characters are coming along well, but as usual, the villain of the piece is hiding somewhere at the back of my brain.

  1. Love the photo.

This morning we set off for Guildford. It’s west of here, and there was promised rain in Portsmouth.

We drove along the A27, along the south coast in temperatures of 21.5, and sunshine. On our way towards the M25, it looked very black to the north and west and the temperature gradually dropped until it reached 12.5. It had poured with rain in Crawley and Reigate, leaving floods on the road and a huge tree branch had come down half blocking the road. (Tree surgeons were clearing it.)

In Guildford the sun came out and it was really warm. Most odd weather. But there had been no rain here, either (just north of Eastbourne.)

    And we need rain, too.

    1. Funnily enough, my new book, Swan Song is set in Guildford. I have quite fallen in love with the place…

  2. your camera is fine,It’s the settings that need to be adjusted. You need to shoot it on manual. The amount of light coming in needs to be less. Of course by doing that the rest of the picture will be very dark. So you won’t see the town.

Takes pictures of the moon is difficult. It’s best 2 or 3 days before the full moon and done when the sun is still up. The moon will rise near when the sunsets.

    1. Thanks for the info, I shall give that a try…

  3. It had better not rain until Sunday, as I have 14 people here for a BBQ tomorrow!

    1. we were threatened with a downpour, Stevie, but it didn’t amount to more than a few drops. Hopefully, your BBQ will be dry!

      1. We’re all set up and raring to go. It all kicks off at 4pm.

        1. I hope it all went well… and dry, Stevie…

          1. Yes, it was a lovely day. No sign of rain yesterday or today either so far.

            1. We have a week of rain forecast here, so no outdoor activities for a while…

              1. Yep, it’s raining here, but I’ve just been swimming so it’s all good.

                1. That’s the only time it’s acceptable, Stevie…

  4. We are awaiting rain here… LOVE the moon!!

    1. Too much cloud to see the eclipse, that’s if there even was one, Annette…
