Patience is a funny thing. And not just the card game…

Never ending for some things, yet remarkably short for others. I am known for my patience and will often hang on long after most people have given up. But I am beginning to discover what happens when it runs out.

My recovery at the moment couldn’t be any slower if it tried, and I have tried to be patient, but it looks like my patience is getting a bit threadbare.

And, if it’s not as if I can send someone down the road to get some more, is it?

It’s probably the boredom that is using it all up. I didn’t think I would get bored, mainly because I am living in my office and there are jobs to do everywhere in here.

I have this other problem, though. I haven’t mentioned it before, because I hoped it would disappear. Something weird has happened to my memory. Yawning great holes have appeared, and I can’t remember how to do practically everything. All those things I have been doing every day for the last 15 years are beyond my reach now. (a side effect from the medication, apparently)

I keep trying to prod my memory, hoping for a miracle, but I must relearn anything I want to do.

So, add all that together and I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that my patience has been shot down in flames…

  1. I am so sorry, Jaye! I know patience isn’t easy at the moment, but you have to let the meds do their work, even if they are messing with your head. Once you’ve recovered and off the meds, things will improve out of sight! Stay strong.

    1. Thanks for your support, Meeks. I am trying to stay strong but there are days when I’m not. I know that I am in for the long haul… 💖

      1. You will get through this. And as a writer, no life experience is ever wasted. I don’t wish any misery on any of your characters, but perhaps one day one of them can go through the process and come out stronger at the end of it. -hugs-

        1. Well, actually, in my latest story, my main character is struggling, so I have probably already tried to pass my efforts on!

          1. Ta da! There you go. There is ALWAYS a silver lining. We just have to know how to find it. :D
Speaking of, I assume your back is still too painful for prolonged writing sessions. I wonder if a better chair might not help? I have literally just bought myself a new ergonomic chair that even has a massage function for the lumbar region. It came as a flat pack – Kogan sale! – and I haven’t put it together yet, but I hope it gives me some much needed comfort. I’ll let you know in a day or three. :D

            1. That sounds like a chair all writers should have, Meeks…

              1. Still putting it together but I hope to have it functional by this evening. I’ll keep you posted. :D

  2. (He) She conquers who endures. Persius. Have you tried a little music to refill the empty spaces? Stay positive. Keep smiling.

    1. Thanks for the reminder, Goff. I have been forgetting about music…

      1. Happy Listening. Have a great day My Friend.🎶

          1. ☕️😎

  3. I need to be more patient. It’s hard.

    1. It is a hard thing to be, but worth it in the long term… Hang in there! 🤞💖

      1. I am hanging in there…even when I was behind the lady who didn’t have enough change when checking out at the grocery store. I gave her all the change I had, took a deep breath, and waited…as she tried to remember her pin. Sigh.

        1. Sometimes, it is true, we need something else as well as patience…

          1. Exactly!

  4. I’m sorry to hear this Jaye. But please consider the meds you are taking. Losing plot doesn’t come on suddenly. And the fact that you are aware that you’re not remembering things is a good sign you are aware of the fact. I do hope things sort themselves for you soon. Hugs xx

    1. Thanks for the encouragement, Debby. My impatience is letting me down, I think…

  5. Those memory gaps from medication are truly annoying. I’ve gotten very tired of looking off into space and waiting for my brain to catch up. I try and rely on muscle memory to get me through most things, which is all fine and good except when it comes to abstract things/thoughts … which is what we writers need to actually write!

    1. Precisely, Widds. and just how frustrating it can be. Being stubborn helps, but I’m getting really fed up with having to relearn everything… 😖

  6. Still praying al will be well

  7. I am so sorry, Jaye. I pray this is a temporary side effect!

    1. So do I, Jan. I feel like I’m back at school!

  8. Have you tried playing mahjong or similar memory games? I do not know that it will work, but I have heard it does.

    1. I play these games all the time, as I have been addicted for years. Maybe they have helped to keep what little memory I have left…

  9. So sorry, Jaye. At lest we’re all ‘marching older’ together; so it can be shared. That companionship is everything? 🌹

    1. Thanks Steve, I am hanging on to the idea that this is all temporary… It had better be…

      1. Let’s visualise that ❤️

        1. I wish I could, Steve… maybe I should try harder…

          1. Find a place or space inside you that feels full of joy and calm, and feed that feeling until it grows and subsumes the less positive states. Practice every day, making it bigger … until it’s everything

            1. That might be a difficult find right now, Steve. but I will try to find one somewhere…
