The Japanese Quince
First thing yesterday morning I popped outside to fill up the birdfeeders before the promised rain arrived.
On my way past the bonsai, I caught a glimpse of scarlet flowers, with the familiar bright yellow stamens. It was a sight to gladden my heart, as I realised that the pigeons hadn’t dined on them yet.
As I walked back to the house, thinking that today would be a special day.
Most of my small trees were on the move now and I looked forward to seeing them in all their glory.
After a pleasant morning blogging here there and everywhere, I whizzed past the news, only to be halted by a very familiar scene. Well, most of it was.
It was definitely the River Thames in London, but what was swimming around, having so much fun?
Dolphins! Dolphins in Father Thames?
I lived in London when I was young and loved the enormous river that threaded through London and most of the surrounding countryside. I have lived near it, lived on it, and missed it so much since we moved down to Hampshire.
Sometimes grey and misty and often muddy, he was a good friend to this lonely child. Someone I could talk to and share my thoughts with. I swear he talked to me too.
I would have loved to have been there to watch the dolphins play. It must have been magical…
There were three dolphins, but the press were a bit stingy with the photographs…
