What’s your favorite thing to cook?

My favourite thing to cook was always spaghetti Bolognese, these days, though, I definitely think my love affair with cooking has faded.

I have been cooking for other people since I was ten years old. I am now long in the tooth at 80, and I am sorry to say that the gilt has finally rubbed off the gingerbread. (what a strange expression that is!)

Cooking is now as much a chore as cleaning the bathroom or that ever-mucky oven!

I cook three meals a day, whether I am hungry or not, and often wish that someone else in the family could cook, just to give me a day off!

  1. I am so with you on this! I just want to sit and write and have someone bring me good, already prepared food! God bless.

    1. We can still dream, Stephanie…

    2. It sounds like cooking has been a lifelong journey for you, but it’s completely understandable that the spark can fade after so many years. Maybe it’s time to treat yourself to a break—let someone else take the reins, or even explore simpler, no-cook meals now and then. You’ve earned it!

  2. Do I ever hear you. I cooked for my siblings since I was eleven, then for myself, and three meals a day for me and hubby. After I lost him I haven’t used my over – or kitchen table. It’s airfryer dinners now. :)

    1. This sounds so wrong to actually say, Debby, but I am looking forward to a time when I don’t need to cook anymore…

      1. Now, I wouldn’t say that. Everyday is a gift.

        1. Yes, you are right, Debby. These days I tend to forget that…

          1. Believe me, sometimes I forget. But we must remember x

            1. Right now, every day is a pain filled torture. Maybe when they figure out why, I can think about the future again…

  3. Oh I am so with you on this, Jaye! At the moment I’m having to cook for the Offspring and myself plus the dog, because the dog has something akin to IBS so she gets freshly cooked chicken with garlic, and rice, every day. I don’t mind so much in winter, but it has been so hot lately I’d happily not eat at all, much less cook.

The Offspring does cook sometimes, for which I am eternally grateful, but honestly, there are days I’d be happy never to cook again. :(

    1. Same here, Meeks. I used to enjoy cooking, but not anymore!

      1. Amen. :(

  6. It can get wearisome, Jaye. I like to opt for dishes that can be reheated for a couple days and that helps.

    1. That would work for me, Jan… but not my family, unfortunately…

  7. You deserve a break! Tell them I said so!

    1. Thanks Violet, but one look at their starving faces ….

  8. I love cooking but only when it’s an enjoyable time to do it and I have time to potentially experiment too. When you’re doing it because you have to and making the same food all the time, That can become a chore.

    1. It really can, Kitty…

    I’ve always hated cooking!

    1. Anonymous? OK, I’ll try again…

      1. Who’se anonymous?

        1. It was me! I hadn’t realised I hadn’t signed in.

    2. On a good day, its not so bad, but on those ‘must do it’ days, I hate it too…

  11. Congratulations! I’ve been at this point all my life and am glad to have company!

    1. Duty is all well and good, but I can’t help thinking it’s the wrong way round…

      1. maybe everybody’s cooking is poorer than yours?

        1. I would love to think that’s the case, but more probably a case of can’t or won’t!

  12. I absolutely LOVE to cook and if I lived closer, I would provide respite from cooking for you anytime!

    1. What a lovely thing to say, Annette. I shall remember your offer the next time I switch on the cooker! 💖

  13. You definitely have to retire from beeing the cooking slave, Jaye! Someone will do it instead. Best wishes, Michael

    1. We will all starve if I don’t do it, but thanks for trying to help, Michael…

  14. In reply to your spaghetti, instead of ground beef, try shredded brisket. It elevates the flavor immensely!

    1. That sounds like a wonderful idea, Tania… thank you so much… 💖

  15. It’s not my favourite thing either…
