I did wonder about the visitor, so thanks for the photos. He or she is impressive!

We never expected to see one at the Rock Garden, but there are fish in that pond…

When I had goldfish in my garden pond, more than 20 years ago, a heron would turn up every now and then. Eventually, there were no fish. Maybe there was a connection, although I suspect raccoons were more to blame.

I always think it a shame if you have to put netting on a pond…

I tried that. Didn’t work and looked ugly. It’s sort of like wrapping plastic mesh around plants to keep deer from nibbling them. That does work, but looks ugly. And I’ve had an instance of deer chewing both leaves and netting and then swallowing the mushed-up leaves through the netting.

We are at their mercy, Audrey. At the moment I am being forced to watch the wood pigeons systematically eating as many of the new flower shoots that they can find!
