Sunday Writing Prompt – 16th August – Carnival

IMG_0435

With painted faces hidden
Feasting can begin
Chase the winter darkness
Joy calling summer returning
Christians, pagans, celebrating as one
Music grinding hips
Snake their way through the streets
Days of celebration
Coloured beads festoon the crowds
Happy smiling people
Do you recognise the face beneath the paint?
Are you kissing a stranger?
Or a long-forgotten friend
Beneath the hidden shining mask?

  1. A mask can hide the best as well as the worst. Good poem, Anita.

    1. Thanks, John!

  2. Wonderful poem, Anita. The questions at the end encapsulate the fun of the masks. I’d love to join in one year. :-)

    1. I think everyone should, at least once…

  3. I love Venetian Carnivale masks. I used to collect them, but the collection was destroyed in one of my moves. (Only one survived, and it was my least favorite, of course.) Great prompt and poem.

    1. Thank you, Staci…
