Eugi’s Weekly Prompt – Viewpoint – May 13, 2021

Young genie in the making
Waiting for someone to ask for a wish
With each wish he grants, he gains a year
Learning from those who touch the lantern
How to fight for his freedom
Young and old have made their wishes
It seems to go from hand to hand
Until the day he realises they cannot see him
They are stupid humans, blindly making wishes
Sometimes being left in the charity shop
Waiting for someone to buy him
He has been picked up, turned around
Put back on the shelf
Late at night when the shop is closed
He can see people passing by
Some stop to look in the window
He has made so many silent wishes
For someone to see him
Until they do, he cannot bargain for his freedom
He waits, bitterness creeping around the edge of his heart
His days grow dark, God help the one who sets him free…
