Hi, Everybody! Time for another look at some of Central Florida’s wildlife. This time, I’m going to share a few things about the Florida black bear. Yep, it’s a subspecies of the American black bear, and has several differences, though a few of the American black bears do overlap our borders a bit. (They just can’t resist a visit or two to the Sunshine State, I guess.)

You can see from the opening slide that the Florida Black Bear is classified as Ursus americanus floridanus, and I’ll be dividing this subject into at least two parts. Part 1 will include some general statistics and then a bit about how a Florida black bear’s life begins.The next slide gives you some basic statistics for those of you who are interested in these details.
