Rambling in the Garden

Heading straight for the patch of zinnias for today’s vase, I had no idea yet of a title or theme. The zinnias have been all but neglected apart from admiring glances for weeks, gradually becoming taller and statelier as the season has gone on, perhaps in an attempt to grab my attention. However, the garden has proved as abundant as usual, and they have had to wait their turn – but here they are today in their vibrant and juicy colours.

I picked all the blooms that were on show, and augmented the fruity collection with blues of Clematis heracleifolia ‘New Love’ and clary sage ‘Oxford Blue’, yellow unnamed dahlia blooms, purple statice Limonium ‘Purple Attraction and plum Scabious ‘Burgundy Beau’, most of which we could loosely relate to different fruits although in hindsight we could have done without the Clematis.
