The colours were always lingering,
The picture clear in her mind,
But transfer it to the canvas?
It somehow got left behind.
Deep in the dark recesses
Torment and teasing in turn,
She raised her brush and palette
The image beginning to burn:
The eyes in the glass flashed brightly,
The curse showing itself on cue,
Everything on the paper
Was a variant shade of blue.
Was this what the Old Witch wanted?
Ideas that would never bear fruit?
Well the sky was always familiar,
She could paint it well to suit……
The colours of night and morning,
The dark, and rising…
