One of the biggest turning points in my life was when I lost my Dad and found poetry. I remember returning from Dad’s funeral, in pieces, walking to work in the dark wondering how on Earth I was going to teach all day long whilst feeling so utterly overwhelmed by feeling. At my lowest point on this walk, I received a message. Write it down! And in no time there I was typing all sorts of rhymes and poems into my phone about grief and the rest is history. Poetry is my therapy, my anchor, where I find my truest sense of self. I wrote this one a couple of years ago and am so utterly grateful for the outlet that poetry has given me.

Like Yesterday

The years don’t make the missing less

the hole remains inside me

The wishing I could see you rests
