Don’t know what made us do it, but a few days before we left for the Island we ordered ourselves a couple of mountain bikes. Now it’s been many years since I’ve done any cycling, but we decided to start off gently and get our legs acclimatised to the hills.
Yesterday we found a nice flat 2-mile cycle ride along Ryde seafront, but today was a bit more of a struggle. We took the bikes in the car up to Culver Down, but parked in the first place we found and then cycled the rest of the way to the top. The bikes have 18 gears, but even though I was in 1:1 it still wasn’t very easy in the bracing wind! However, there was a welcome seat with a lovely view over Whitecliff Bay when we got to the top.
