Those who know me best will be aware that I have a terror, amounting to a phobia, of driving, or being driven, on the motorway.

For years, I have blithely assumed that it was the speed that freaked me out. This is not quite the whole truth. It all depends upon the driver (if I am passenger). Truth be known I can be frozen in utter horror very quickly by drivers who are impatient and/or aggressive; those, that is to say, who cannot bear to slow down behind a vehicle going more sedately than they wish to be (even when there is no real hurry) and who chomp at the bit to overtake. Those, to continue this thought, who do not see why they shouldn’t express their aggression once they are behind the wheel and hog the middle lane, or tail-gate in the fast lane, or drive furiously up too…
