In A Vase On Monday – Good Fortune

Eliza Waters

Red and gold are traditional colors in Chinese culture with red symbolizing good luck, joy and happiness, and gold for balance and freedom from worldly cares. Red Weigela (W. florida) and gold tall bearded iris (I. x germanica) are hopefully bringing good fortune to our home this week, with silvery lamb’s ears (Stachys byzantina) for added prosperity.

A few sprigs of sage blossoms (Salvia officinalis) are a nod to the wizened figures in the foreground. Antique, hand-carved ivory figurines once belonging to my spouse’s grandmother, I’m guessing they are Lao Tzu and Confucius?

Thanks to Cathy at Rambling In the Garden, who hosts a weekly meme to showcase arrangements created from our gardens. Wander over to see what gardeners all over the world are arranging this week.
