NoWorries…

When I was told that I wasn’t fit enough for surgery, I didn’t know what to think. When I got over the shock, my first thought was, I can get fit, no problem. I just have to exercise more.

I ended up fretting about this so much that the more I searched for a way to do this, the more hopeless it seemed to get. With every new routine that I tried, the harder it became, and somewhere along the line, I stopped looking.

One of the reasons for this was the loss of a much-loved family member last year, who was found to have the same problem. He died on the operating table.

Now, I am 82 and have been mostly unfit for years. It is possible that no matter how hard I try, however fit I manage to become, I am likely to die on the operating table too.

Having thought long and hard about this, I have decided to do my best, slowly and carefully, and see what happens. I may never be fit enough, but I must come to terms with this. No one can live forever, but I am not going to risk what life I may have left worrying about everything.

I am going to enjoy whatever time I have left…

Best wishes… Jaye 💖💖

Good on you!!! :D … I’ve become quite philosophical about the whole dying during surgery thing. I reckon its like winning the lottery. There’s no ‘playing the odds’ – ie the more you play the more likely you are to win – the thing is reset every time, it’s a 50/50 split. Either you will or you won’t.
My philosophical-ness ends once the surgery is over though. Then I’m going, “NEVER AGAIN!!!” and run screaming from the room any time anyone mentions it. :D … seriously though, I had such an absolutely horrrendous recovery this time, that it would have to be something absolutely life-or-death-y to get me back there.
The alternative is, of course, as you rightly say, to get myself as fit as I can, without making myself completely miserable, and as Mr Churchill was reputed to say, ‘keep calm and bugger on’. :D

Oh, doesn’t that sum it up perfectly, Widds?

I haven’t been able to ‘exercise myself fit’ for over 36 years now. The aftermath of the few surgeries that were deemed necessary has been very hard – and I’m 76.

Take the best possible care of yourself. Indulge sanely. Love, laugh, and write – and receive gentle hugs whenever possible.

Unfortunately, we have little control over life. We just have to take it as it comes and do our best.

I agree. Apart from those times when it becomes necessary to smack life on the nose!

All anyone can do is to take each day as it comes with the ups and downs and appreciate the chance to live it. Hugs!

I applaud your decision. Surgery will never be my first choice for that very reason. One day at a time is a good way to live. I love the Dalai Lama quote. xo

At least it is something I can cope with, Darlene…💖💖

It all comes down to that anyway, doesn’t it Goff?
