Newsletters on WordPress ???
When I discovered that I could actually send newsletters from our website on WordPress, I jumped at the chance. Only to be so disappointed to find that not all of our subscribers received our first effort.
We have a lot of subscribers (I’m not bragging; we have been here for a long time), so it seems a shame that having a newsletter on WP didn’t work out as well as I hoped.
Then I noticed that everything we posted was being sent out as a newsletter. What on earth had I done, or not done, as is my habit?
Back to the drawing board and lengthy conversations with the WP bots. Turns out I had missed some vital info after all. There was a lot I didn’t understand, though. (and still don’t)
I nearly gave up when they tried to tell me that only people who had actually subscribed would get the newsletter. As far as I knew, all the subscribers on our list HAD subscribed, so what the hell was going on?
Apparently, I had missed a vital step. I was instructed to find the newsletter setting. It’s either on your left sidebar or with Jetpack. You must find the list of subscribers, and at the bottom, you can choose the categories. I hadn’t done this, so it was a wonder anyone got anything!
I also discovered something very odd. When I looked down the list of our subscribers, not all of them had ‘subscribed’ next to their name. More confusion! I wondered what else I hadn’t done…
So I will try to include a subscriber sign-up form when I next post something, just so everyone can catch up!
I will try one more newsletter, and if it fails again, it will mean trying something else, which will be a shame, for I love the ease of using WP for our newsletters…
