Visitors to my bonsai forest…
Along with the regular visits of a couple of magpies (they are so big when seen up close!), there is also a very small robin who often turns up.

They all seem fascinated by my small trees, and boy, they look strange, hopping about in the smallest forest in the land.
Even the tiny robin looks huge compared to the trees he visits. He turned up again the other day, one of the coldest days so far, and it crossed my mind that he could be looking for food.
So, I bought some fat balls to hang in the garden. I would have liked to have bought some mealworms too, the robin’s favourite, but they want them alive and wriggling, and I couldn’t find any.
I braved the freezing weather and hung the balls on a tree in the garden yesterday. While I was out there, despite the cold, I gathered up the fallen wisteria leaves and tied up the new pampas grass. This didn’t do much this year, but hopefully, it will do better in 2025. It’s a pink variety, so it should be spectacular if it blooms!

I was only outside for fifteen minutes, but I was so cold when I came back inside. My lungs were screaming, and I could hardly breathe, but I felt much better about Mr Robin…
The intense cold is set to continue, so I shall stay in the warm and work on my new story…
