Muses…

Muses…

Unfortunately, I haven’t had a muse for some time now.

I have tried to remedy this, but it would seem there must be a shortage of muses. Where on earth have they gone?

Either that or maybe I don’t warrant one.

Years ago, I had a very good muse who helped me to write my first book. He was a little old-fashioned, but his advice and observations were exactly what I needed at the time.

He didn’t stay, though, and since then, I have tried to remember his teachings when writing my stories.

This time, however, I am struggling, possibly due to my health problems, and I could do with some guidance. That magical way they have of putting their finger on the problem.

I have hoped and prayed for a muse to take pity on me, but so far, I am on my own.

Desperate, I allowed my sister to read my first chapter to see if I could be on the right track. She is a wonderful writer, so I expected a reasonable amount of help. But she didn’t like what I had written and recommended trying again.

So far, there have been several tries, all with the same response, so I have put it away for a while.

Meanwhile, I am being referred to the Ear, Nose, and Throat department at our local hospital to have my ear and eye problems checked out. Once I know the outcome, maybe I will be able to write again…

We can’t force that muse, sadly. But that’s a sign to take a timeout. :) x

so far, Debby, a time out has been mostly unsuccessful, as I can’t get my brain to shut up…

You must distract yourself with something else you enjoy. :)

I do try, Debby, but there are days when nothing seems to work. That’s usually when I need a nap!

Yeah, I agree with Darlene, just keep on writing the bloody thing until you get to ‘The End’ and then go back and fix what needs to be fixed, :D and be damned to fickle muses! :D

You are right, of course, Widds. I think I am turning into a worry wart lately!

I hear sometimes muses sometimes hang out at the Wall-Mart parking lot and all you have to do is wave one over. 😊 Be careful who you wave over though. There are some people looking for work. The alternative of letting it rest a while until after the medical opinion might be the better choice.

I have never been much good at letting things rest, John… persistence is my middle name!

I hope your muse ends her holiday soon! I think mine has joined her as I’m a bit uninspired in my current WIP.

Health problems and stress are all anathema for writing and getting inspired. I expect that once you get that sorted it’ll come back.

Who or what is your normal muse?

I haven’t had a regular muse, Leanne. I had a brief encounter years ago with a very helpful gentleman who bore a striking resemblance to Mark Twain, but he didn’t stay long…

I don’t have answers, merely suggestions. How about if you did something that got you out of your comfort zone, as your health permits. Maybe your health conditions are blocking your creativity. Writing and creativity naturally ebb and flow; it will come eventually. You’ve gotten through tough things before, like your new, beautiful website.

I suppose I couldn’t help but worry that everything was going to grind to a stop, Leanne… Silly really, as nothing is going to stop me for long…

I always feel guided in my life, but not in my writing life. Maybe my life guardians are not interested in my writing?

Whoever she was, her presence was enough to energise me, Diana. Hopefully she will hang around long enough to see the book firmly established…

My muse is a long walk through the forest and up onto a limestone escarpment, Jaye; Tess in tow, of course.
Wishing you the speedy return of yours!

You did well with Folly’s End so I’m sure it will come back again. Leave the beginning and just keep writing. Then go back to the beginning. We seldom use the same beginning we started with anyway! Hugs.
