The Mermaid

She lay on the sand, an ethereal figure
Her blue-green tail brittle, Her ivory skin pale
The summer heat shimmering, a halo around her
I had found a mermaid, an angel from the sea
I cannot stop to think why she had beached herself this way
Only one way to save her
Kicking off my shoes as I ran toward her
Gently lifting her body, I walk her into the sea
Taking her home…
