#FlashFiction Challenge for Carrot Ranch Literary Community ~ #Poetry

December 10: Flash Fiction Challenge

In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story about something a character never dreamed would happen. The situation can be fortuitous, funny, or disappointing. Go where the prompt leads!

The day of the big move, here at last
Mum said everything would be done
For my twelfth birthday
Granddad put a spoke in the wheel
I’m not moving, he said
Sat in his old armchair
We didn’t know what dad said to him.
The moving man took his chair
He sat sulking in the car
I sat in the back seat with grandad
He grabbed my hand. I’m scared, Billy.
Your gran won’t know where we are…
I had no idea grandad was so soft
He has always been the backbone of our family
But Gran’s still here…

Very sweet story, Anita. Mom always said you had to be brave to get old. :)
