#BlogBattle: Shield

#BlogBattle is a weekly short story/flash fiction challenge using a single word for inspiration.

One small boy, a busy road

His father runs,

throwing himself in front of his son

This is the great shield

Greater than Knights of old,

or Templars bold.

There are many ways

to shield that which is precious

Can there be one greater

Than to lay down your life for another?

I think not…

Very resonating and filled with truth. I like how you immediately established place and the imagery is as poignant as it is vivid. Enjoyable as always!

Nicely done, I cannot imagine a stronger shield or greater sacrifice.

Can’t fault this one ladies. A very good use of the prompt word. A human shield driven by love and a consequential selfless sacrifice. Makes you think in today’s world of fast paced unmindfulness. A pause for thought indeed.

Such a lovely poem! I really like the idea of ‘the great shield’/ the ultimate sacrifice being a thread that runs through history, through the decades — people saving the ones they love over and over again, by surrendering their own existence. It really gives you a lot to think about…
