Dark Cloud… #Poetry

Dark Cloud

The northern skyline, dark, menacing, heavy

Something evil hidden behind black clouds?

Lightning strikes like a wild animal set free

The rain is heavy, long overdue.

The land drunk eagerly, like a man lost in the desert

my bare feet slip on newly made mud.

Children slip and dance, enjoying the rain

with open outstretched hands.

The people of my village lift their eyes to heaven

giving thanks that not all dark clouds hide evil.

Some bring joy and the long-awaited rain…

I love the twist at the end from negative to positive.

    I love a good thunderstorm- it’s invigorating!

Us too, since we moved to the Island. Back home we used to get humdingers!

          Which island do you mean?

Vancouver Island. We haven’t seen a thunderstorm in six years :)

I wonder why that is, but you have my sympathies! They say we are protected from storms by the range of hills called the South Downs, which is no consolation really…
