A New Week, better or worse?

First thing on Monday mornings, I usually look forward a new and hopefully better week. (pardon me while I laugh hysterically)

Last week wasn’t great, what with the grim weather, and coping with a sub-arctic fridge. We kept turning it off, trying to stop the ice formation from getting any worse. Then there was the job of removing two heavy kitchen cupboards and dragging them into my office. That alone nearly did the pair of us in.

If you have ever moved a kitchen cupboard, you will know what happened next. That freezer hadn’t been moved since we bought it, 12 years ago, so the accumulation of dust, cobwebs and what looked suspiciously like mouse droppings had to be seen to be believed.

Now, there wasn’t much room to manoeuvre, even with the cupboards removed, so all hopes of a quick sweep up faded really fast. I ended up on my poor old knees, scraping it all up and finishing with a wash cloth.

Up close and personal, I could see the debris properly, and there was no mistaking the presence of an awful lot of mouse droppings. We had this problem a long time ago, when a poor mouse thought the motor housing of the fridge a good place to sleep. After hunting for the smell for two days, we tracked it down to the fridge and had to retrieve a dead mouse. Why is our freezer so popular?

The fun didn’t stop there, for when the engineer turned up, he said he couldn’t do anything that day, as he couldn’t find anywhere to park. Parking around here is a nightmare, and we live on a main road, with double yellow lines. I offered to pay his parking fine, but he wasn’t keen on that idea, and off he went.

The mood and the language will not be repeated here, but to say we were disappointed (and exhausted) would be putting it mildly. It took two days to recover from the strain of deconstructing our kitchen, and I slept through them both!

Another engineer is coming on Thursday, and we have managed to arrange a parking permit for him, so you never know, we might get our fridge repaired and our kitchen back…

Bit of a laugh really. The weather is freezing outside, and we have frozen solid food in the fridge.

You couldn’t make it up…

PS: I also have a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday, just to make the week even more interesting…

I can relate to the awful discoveries every time I move an appliance or need a repair. Mice also make homes in our cars’ air filters. Oh, the aroma is literally to die for.

I hope the repair goes well, the kitchen gets put back together, and the freezing stuff stays outside. Good luck with your doctor’s appointment too.

Thanks for your good wishes, Diana, but the repair didn’t go well, neither did the doctor’s appointment. More waiting to do…

Oh dear! I hope you get the fridge sorted soon.

My neighbour came over yesterday to say the small drinks fridge he has in his garage had given up the ghost. He brought us some cheese he said they wouldn’t be able to eat as they had lots.

Today he came over and said it was working. It seems fridges don’t work below a certain temperature and it had been below that in his garage.
