Jaye’s Thoughts

Is anyone’s life perfect?

I often wonder about this when people watching. I have always watched people, wondering who they really are, how they really are. What secrets they keep hidden, even from themselves.

I watch people I know well, too, even though I know most of their secrets. I see the pain caused by thoughtless remarks and wonder why they never speak of it. Why do we insist on keeping these secrets, leaving ourselves open to constant pain, when the truth would make it stop?

I am guilty of this, too. Rather than speak my mind, I ignore the pain, hoping it will eventually stop hurting. For I know that the pain I would inflict would be worse to bear.

When I was a child, my favourite character from The Water Babies, was Mrs Do as you would be done by.

I have tried to live my life as she did, and often wished others did too…

Don’t worry, I can swim!

Due to an acquired disability I have a difficult time seeing a fellow volunteer being repeatedly hurt. In or for me to function, I have pointed out the hurtful behaviour. Rather than seeing the behaviour stop, it became directed at me with increasingly hurtful actions. Sociopathic people resent having their behaviour challenged.

Yes, do as you would be done by is a motto I follow too. It’s a good one.

Pity more people don’t follow it too, Stevie… the world would be a better place…

I guess we can never find the answer, Jaye! Or, some people want the answer, but some don’t.

We often hear the saying, “sink or swim,” and lately it’s felt more like sinking or at least treading water. An expressive poem!

I thought so too, Jan. One of Anita’s best, I think…

Your poem is beautiful – we feel the pain and anguish. I also enjoyed the post – The Water Babies is a firm favourite of mine.

It isn’t . Selfishness seems to be the thing nowadays.

… and apathy, Vivienne… there is far too much of that too…
