Time… a new poem from Anita… #Poetry

Time

Time changes too much…

I am still walking on cobbled streets

Where the man lights the lamps at night,

putting them out again in the morning

Where the moon turned out larger than today

Where men would doff their hats when a lady passes by

Where courtships could take months

before a kiss passed their lips

When fine carriages with black horses

played music on the cobbles

Their leftovers would help your roses grow

When a piano is played by a genteel lady

for the afternoon entertainment

When piano legs would be kept covered

for fear of excitement

Yet, behind closed doors,

the same sad stories would play out

From the time of Adam and Eve, so it is today

Time returns wearing new clothes

Stained by time gone by…

This poem shares a bygone era, but the virtues expressed still hold a fascination with the sentiments of the past.

I enjoyed the poem, Anita. Time seemed kinder back before the industrial revolution.

Your poem has such truth. That’s why they called them the good old days. Thank you for sharing this.
