More Shenanigins…

Do you ever feel that fate has it in for you?

After yesterday’s shenanigans, I certainly do. You may remember that last year, I had all kinds of trouble trying to switch from Mailchimp to Mailerlite, and after driving myself all sorts of crazy, I had to give up?

Needless to say, I have not been happy with my relentless determination to improve our email marketing.

After months of ignoring my frustration and being sick and tired of nothing working correctly, I found myself looking for an easier alternative.

I don’t know how often I have struggled with this idea, but again, I cannot grasp the nettle.

While I was browsing, even that is getting more complicated, isn’t it? I found that WP has something called Mail Poet. An email system that is supposedly foolproof. Is it me proof, though?

I would love your feedback if anyone has heard of this or used it.

Although I still regret not getting to grips with Mailerlite, I would settle for one I can make work, before I lose the rest of my remaining brain cells!

Moving on, I have just spent two days figuring out what BT has done to my emails. More tinkering has left me unable to access or change screens. The ability to have several pages open also seems to have taken a walk.

They have removed the bar at the top of my screen, making it impossible for me to figure out what to do.

This morning, I noticed a new bar down the left side of my screen that seems to grow every time I read an email. By trial and error, I realised all the read emails were on this list.

Wouldn’t it be lovely if all these companies could explain their tinkering? Better yet, tell us how we can use them?

Have a terrific weekend, everyone!

I know I will, for I am not switching on the computer! I will be editing…

Commiserations, Jaye. I do have to ask though, why bother with a newsletter app. at all? WordPress sends email notifications to everyone who has subscribed to my blog and has asked to be notified via email. So everyone who bothers to follow me, gets notified automatically.
I always subscribe to blogs I follow via email so I know it works because I get scads of notifications. If that doesn’t accomplish what newsletters are supposed to do, I don’t know what does. And it’s more immediate. And only those who are genuinely interested bother to read posts.
And last but not least, the people who get notified have already /chosen/ to give WordPress their details. When I first investigated newsletters and Mailchimp in particular, I was stuck by the wording of their privacy policy. I, as the sender of the newsletter, would not misuse the recipients details, but I couldn’t find anything that specifically said that Mailchimp wouldn’t use those same details for its own purposes.
This all happened around about the time of the Cambridge Analytica debacle, so I decided not to use newsletters at all.
I can’t say I’m making heaps of sales, but then I doubt that I’d be making heaps of sales via a newsletter either. -shrug- Do you really need that newsletter?

I hope all get settled, Jaye. On the bar you may want to go into your mail settings and see if there is a setting for bar location. I can’t see your mail system so this is just a suggestion.

Turns out we have a new bar, down the left side, John… We haven’t had one there before!

I have been struggling greatly with technology, too, Jaye. I have heard that there is something built into WP for newsletters, but afraid to try it. :) Good luck.

My sympathy with technology. I decided to do as advised about Google and Yahoo’s shenanigans. I got myself a domain name with WordPress and happily set off to verify and authenticate it with Mailerlite.
That’s when the trouble began. First, I couldn’t verify it. After some discussion, I think Mailerlite got fed up and verified it. Then I clicked on the authenticate button. No. Mailerlite lite couldn’t find it. I contacted Mailerlite again.
They said to follow their easy video. It assumed everything went smoothly, and didn’t say what to do if it didn’t.
To cut a long story short, I had email discussions, and it seemed there were problems with the name and something else. I was told to check and change these, but not how to do it, not where to find it.
WordPress were helpful as far as they could be. Then Mailerlite said they were only responding to their paid customers as they had so many queries.
It was at that point I decided that enough was enough. I sent an email to my (very few) email recipients and closed my account.
I don’t think my email list was worth the effort. It had barely grown, in spite of my efforts, and did not appear to have ane effect on sales either.
I don’t think that the people who run and work in the technology companies realise that what may be simple and obvious to them is a closed book to many of us.
Oh, and I can’t say I’ve noticed anything different on my bt mail page. Maybe they’re rolling it out bit by bit.

the problem I had with Mailerlite was to do with our domain name. I tried to make it work several times, but had to give up. this attempt with MailPoet could be my last attempt, Vivienne…
