Jaye’s Week 5: One Job at a Time?

When 2024 started, I was determined that this new year would be different. I didn’t want to waste another year being hopelessly behind, playing catch up all the time.

As resolutions go, the one I made 29 days ago, has been a total failure.

I am always busy every day, but never have anything to show for it. Where I have been busy tackling all of our projects, I haven’t managed to finish any of them.

Last Friday, I had a long hard look for a better way, one that might actually work.

The answer turned out to be simple. I must concentrate on one job at a time and avoid thinking about anything else until I finished it.

Although this would mean I might only do one job a day, (hopefully) it was clearly the only way I could make any progress.

With a bit of luck, I might even find my missing enthusiasm, for I have been feeling rather inadequate lately.

On Saturday, all guns blazing, I had a brilliant working day. I finished two complicated jobs and knew I was on the right track. These jobs were updating two of our new book covers, and any writers reading this will know how complicated this job can be. By the time I had updated them on Amazon, Goodreads, and Draft to Digital, not to mention all the social media sites we use, I was exhausted but happy.

I am sure I have forgotten something, I usually do, but that is the nature of the beast, isn’t it?

But, from going round in circles, getting nowhere fast, I am feeling more confident, and our future is looking brighter…

Or does anyone have a better way?

I’ve had to break down any household tasks into 5 minute-ish bits so that I don’t over-tax my knees/ankles/etc … very frustrating when I started because I was so used to ‘getting the whole thing done’ in one go, but I’ve improved to the point where I merely sigh when the timer goes off and I have to sit down.
    It’s a learning curve.

Most of our household tasks are not getting done, along with most of the writing, Widds.
      More tests to be done…

I’m always saying to myself ‘Where did the morning go?’ when I’m eating my brunch! Putting the washing on ( can’t say doing the washing as the machine does that ) , fetching the wheelie bin in, messaging people, checking emails and blogs, this while lounging on the sofa with my first cup of tea and haven’t got in the shower yet…..

One job at a time sounds good to me! Like you, I’ve been feeling stuck recently, but I’m feeling more positive now – must be something in the stars.
Well done for updating those covers – sounds like a job and a half!

Im suffering a bit with this as well. Thanks to a week of sickness, life threw its usual stick in the wheel.
You do so much btw, and you inspire me a lot. I think your way of concentrating on one thing is better🙏🏾
And congratulations on the cover changes.🖤🖤
