Jaye’s Week Two…

Jaye’s Week Two

Last week began well as if confirming that the week before wasn’t a fluke. I was progressing with the writing and looking forward to a family day midweek.

My head was still coming up with these interesting ideas and plans for future progress, so all was well in my world.

At least, I thought it was.

The first hiccup was the work in progress. Somehow, a chapter had become a sticky mess. I had completely lost track of who had done what and with whom. I wrestled with it for a while, then decided to put it away until a better time presented itself. Always the optimist, me.

Then the computer threw such a wobbly it was almost painful to watch. We are protected by a company called ESET, and I call him the Tin Man due to their logo. We have been with them for years, and I trust him to remove anything nasty. So, when they halted the proceedings and said something was wrong, I was confused.com to put it mildly. They were in the nasty business, so how was I supposed to know what to do?

After a lot of toing and froing, it turned out something bad had snuck in, Something like fifteen-somethings. These would need cleaning. Enter visions of an old-fashioned scrubbing board covered in soapsuds!

To cut a very long story short, this cleaning took all day, and I still didn’t know how it had happened in the first place. When the dust had settled, I found out it had been caused by an update suggested by Google. Just goes to show that you can’t trust anyone, can you?

The following day was family day, where several members of our family and the new great-grandbaby arrived for a catch-up. I’m not sure about everyone else, but I had a lovely day. You can read the post here.

Thursday was a special day. Everything was working the way it should. Word announced an update, but everything looked the same to me, so I carried on regardless. I managed to catch up on several things on my to-do list and made progress on promotion work for several of our books. One of these days, I will be totally happy with how they are presented! (says she, hopefully!)

Friday was shopping day, and we had lunch in town. Absolutely freezing out there, so very glad to get home again.

I managed to sort out that sticky chapter in the afternoon, so one step closer to writing ‘The End.’

To finish this post, I must tell you about something strange that happened while texting son number one on Saturday. He had just written about his afternoon, and when I wanted to reply, something had already been written. It referred to the conversation but was badly written, with no punctuation or much sense. Number one son thought I had written it and was confused when I said I hadn’t.

It reminded me of those annoying party phone lines we used to have that drove everyone bonkers. This world is getting crazier by the minute, and I hope this doesn’t happen again.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Very weird stuff, Jaye. I never do updates from Google. They are bandits over there.

Maybe your are doing your conversation AI assisted, and can’t remember? LoL Funny things happen all over the day! Take it as a prediction what will come in future. Best wishes, Michael

‘Party lines’! Imagine how much funnier the world would be if we still had them, today – perhaps randomised. Bit like Brian Rix does phone calls … I’ll stop now 😎

All I can remember about party lines, is that someone was always using it when we needed to make a call…

So true. and they could listen in on your calls, if they were stealthy, and you missed the ‘click’ of them joining!

If it wasn’t so annoying, I would be terrified, Jan…

My preference is ‘annoying’. :D ‘Terror’ is far too debilitating, but I empathise with the dilemma … it might be useful to do a bit of a reconnoiter of the software you use and see if they haven’t started using some sort of AI program where you have to ‘opt-out’ to get rid of the bastards.

Oh, that’s weird! I remember lying awake in bed around midnight about 8 years ago and thinking that I needed to phone my mum about something. The next morning when I switched my phone on there had been a call from my mum around midnight, although when I phoned her she said she had never called me. I checked on her phone and there was no record of any call.
