An Unusual Resolution…

I wasn’t going to make any resolutions this year, as last years never managed to see the light of day, I might have found one that will help with everything else.

For most of last year, I really missed doing any craft work. I did knit something for the new great-grandbaby, but that was about it. This year, I am determined to squeeze in more fun time, as I know it helps to keep me being me and stops me from feeling dull and ordinary. Craftwork is like gardening for me; a special time we should all try to make now and again.

I love to crochet, and it keeps my fingers busy when I watch television or need to think about any current problems. I’m not brilliant at it, though, for some of the stitches are too complicated for my small brain.

Over the years, I have gathered a big bag of wool from one project or another and need to find a way to use it creatively.

When I saw how pretty some of those granny squares were, I raked out my crochet hook and had a go. Some of them were pretty simple but a little boring. I needed a challenge and had seen the perfect square on the cover of a book on Amazon.

I tried to figure out how to do it but couldn’t get it right. There was nothing for it but to buy the book.

When it arrived, I was eager to start, but most of the pages fell out when I opened the book. Not a good start, I thought.

Minutes later, I discovered that although the square I wanted to make was on the cover, it was nowhere in the book! I cannot describe how frustrating that was.

Maybe I should learn how to do the stitches involved first. This should be easy, I hear you say, but the only place to do this is with YouTube videos, and it’s not always easy to follow someone. There should be a slow-motion button; that would help a lot!

Of course, if anyone reading this knows what I am talking about, I would love some input…

Ah, but there is a ‘slow motion button’ :D … if you click on that round cog-looking thing, bottom right of the video, (if you hover your mouse over it it’ll say ‘settings’) … you’ll see a bunch of options. click on ‘Playback speed’ (which is set at ‘normal’ and you can slow down the video by clicking on one of the options – voila!
I usually slow down the videos I’m learning this sort of thing to 0.75, and use the pause button, lots.
    Hope this helps. :D

My mum was an avid crocheter. She crocheted tablecloths for me (3) and my sister, table mats and coasters as well as tops and cardigans.
How frustrating that the picture on the cover isn’t on the inside.

My daughter just recently took up crochet. She’s 15 and is doing everything without a pattern. It’s exciting to watch her creative mind work. She made a sweater for my teddy bear the other day. It’s the cutest thing ever. I hope you can find someone to help you learn that pattern you’re wanting to make. Also, I wanted to tell you that when I saw your post today, I was reminded of how you were my first follower on one of my blogs over 9 years ago. So thank you for getting me going on my own blogging journey. I’ve met the greatest people here and you’re one of them. ❤️

I’ve never learned to crochet, but can knit. I’ve found that I like colouring with Sharpie pens. Most relaxing, especially when listening to music at the same time.
