Tuesday… A Baby Day!
I was up early again, so I finished another chapter of Folly’s End.
It is always a good day when I manage to do this. I followed this with all the usual daily activities, emails and social media.
After breakfast, needing to do something that could be abandoned quickly, I cleared the drawer so stuffed with papers I was having trouble closing it. This is the drawer where I stuff everything that should be filed elsewhere. Just something to pass the time and await our visitors. I hate this job, but eventually, I must tackle it, if only to fill it up again!
I didn’t get very far, although the pile was smaller when our visitors arrived.
The office was out of bounds the rest of the day, and the years melted away as I held the new baby. She was awake this time, and we had the time to acknowledge each other for the first time. I was offered the job of giving her a bottle. This was a new development, as a recently discovered milk allergy to breast milk was causing trouble, but she happily downed the lot. She studied my face as she drank and seemed to like what she saw, smiling at me. A genuine smile, before you say it, not wind!
It was a lovely afternoon, full of memories, happy conversations, laughter, and hugs. I had completely forgotten how it felt to care for such a tiny baby, although she seemed to have grown so much in just a few weeks and was surprisingly heavy.
After the family had gone, leaving the house so quiet without them, I didn’t return to the office. My head was full of memories, old and new, leaving no room for anything else…
