Like an island

Lonely and forlorn

Separated from others

Surrounded by just emptiness

Craving company and friendship

The loneliness is crippling

The isolation maddening

But to be safe we need to

Put a distance between each other

Waiting for the time when it’s not needed anymore

How we used to take it for granted

The ease and privilege of companionship

And now we miss these small touches
