For the past few years I have been writing a haiku every day, published as day and night meld, with the #midnighthaiku hashtag. I always use the English form of 5-7-5 syllables, but do not, I have to admit, always conform to all the other ‘rules’ laid down for this form.

For me, this is a daily writing exercise, approached in one of two ways. I either write the poem first, then find an image to illustrate some aspect of the poem, often symbolically, or I pull up a random image or two from my photo files, and write to that.
