Fandango’s Flash Fiction Challenge #112

The image is from the Google Photo Frame.

For the visually challenged writer, the photo shows two sets of parallel railroad tracks heading toward a pedestrian walkway that crosses over the tracks.

Scoop out a large plot of land

Lay down your iron tracks

The journey planned through forest green

Birds song on wire above

Do you notice the time shift as you slide under the bridge?

The slight curve that shifts your body to the right.

The colour change as your carriage

emerges from under the bridge.

The sound around you more audible. Sharp, clear

The green outside bright, as if newly washed

Your fellow passengers relaxed, smiling.

A feeling of being blessed, almost immortal,

having been dipped in the River Styx

only without the Achilles heel

If you wish to become a demigod,

Then take the 139 at 8pm,

walk with our ancient heroes

That shaped the land…
