Thursday photo prompt: Torrent #writephoto

For visually challenged writers, the image shows a waterfall, its peat-coloured waters cascading over a rocky ledge and surrounded by trees.
Hidden Places
The beating heart of the water can be heard
in the torrent rushing over the small fall
Following the white foam footsteps into darkness
I wonder if this is a gateway to another world?
As the sound of thundering water
Disappears behind me
The sudden silence, deafening
awakes my senses.
I hear bird song unfamiliar to me
They perch, watching me
Bright colours flashing in the sunlight
They are not from my world.
Should I have followed the torrent of water
Kept my feet firmly in my own world
Will my feet walk there again
Or am I to stay here in wonderland?
