I know this doesn’t necessarily apply to all writers, but word counts can be both massively motivating and soul destroying. Don’t go telling me I am alone in this because I know I’m not.
I currently aim to write 1,000 words a day, no matter what else is going on around me. One night this week I managed 1,200 words by sacrificing some of my much needed sleep, and woke up next morning radiating with motivation. Another day I dragged together 500 words and felt guilty, yet sometimes I only manage a pathetic 250 words which happen include a 20 word sentence that (in my opinion) make them more powerful than anything I wrote during the whole of last week. So I return to my original question, what is it about word counts?
