Having just watched a bunch of very earnest and well-meaning women on the news, I am at near-incoherent frustration at the sheer hypocrisy of the Western world.

In the 1980s I was heavily involved in the campaign to stop the mutilation of puppies under the guise of “conformity to norms” – docking and lopping. Why? Well as a reasonable and compassionate human being I felt that chopping bits off new-born animals was unfair and cruel. There was no medical reason for it, just fashion and “right-thinking”.

I still feel the same but my compassion extends to human babies BUT I mean all babies, male and female. If these liberal do-gooders are going to get their knickers in a knot about young girls being mutilated, why aren’t they doing the same for baby boys?
